The Town of East Hartford is located directly east of the capitol City of Hartford on the east bank of the Connecticut River and encompassing a land area of 18.7 square miles. The town is bordered by Glastonbury to the South, Manchester to the East, and South Windsor to the North. East Hartford is situated midway between New York City and Boston. Regional and national rail lines serve the Town, and Bradley International Airport is 20 miles to the northwest. The Connecticut River provides water access to Long Island Sound 30 miles to the south.

East Hartford serves as the corporate and general headquarters for the Pratt and Whitney Division of United Technologies, which employs 30,000 people worldwide, 7,200 of them in East Hartford. Other large employers include the United Technologies Research Lab, the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of N.Y., the State of Connecticut Department of Information Technology, and Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center.
